No. 201 received Sunderlands and commenced anti-submarine patrols over the Atlantic until the U-boat menace had been defeated. The Squadron also joined the successful Channel blockade prior to D-Day, June 6th 1944. It also had the distinction of carrying the final Coastal Command patrol of the war on June 3, 1945.
Designed to meet an Air Ministry requirement for a general reconnaissance flying boat, the Sunderland was first flown on October 16th, 1937. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Corgi's 1:144 scale Sunderland is constructed almost entirely of solid diecast metal, a quality common to most of Corgi's 1:144 series aircraft. The wonderfully sculpted sold metal hull features a transparent cockpit window with pad printed windows. Military variants include gunner's positions fitted with sturdy all-metal machine gun barrels, and photo etched metal "stickleback" yagi antennas are found on most releases (see photos). The solid metal wings have outboard floats and separately applied exhaust details behind thinly stamped all-metal propellers. The beaching gear installs quickly and easily for ground display and a multi-positional display stand is included on most models (see photos).
