Boeing 737-232 Advanced, serial number 23089, line number 1019, operated by Delta Air Lines as N317DL. Delivered new during the 1980s, N317DL spent more than two decades in Delta's domestic fleet. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines, the aircraft operated short- and medium-haul services throughout the United States and survived long enough to become one of the increasingly rare 737-200s still flying for a major U.S. airline in the mid-2000s. N317DL was photographed operating Delta service at New York LaGuardia as late as July 2005, shortly before Delta finally retired its remaining 737-200s in 2006.

Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967.
