Boeing 737-3H4, serial number 23388, operated by Southwest Airlines as N383SW. N383SW joined Southwest's growing 737-300 fleet as the carrier expanded beyond its original Texas network. Powered by two CFM International CFM56 engines, the 737-300 offered greater capacity, improved fuel efficiency, and much lower noise than Southwest's earlier 737-200s. The type became a cornerstone of the airline's nationwide growth and helped establish its long-standing all-737 fleet strategy. N383SW operated short and medium haul services throughout the United States before Southwest ultimately retired its final 737 Classic aircraft in 2017. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world. Incredibly, there is a 737 taking off or landing somewhere in the world, on average, every five seconds. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
