Boeing 727-251, serial number 20364, operated by Northwest Orient Airlines as N251US. The aircraft joined Northwest's extensive 727 fleet for domestic and regional passenger services throughout the United States. Powered by three Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan engines, the stretched 727-200 combined good runway performance with useful capacity and range, making it ideal for the airline's dense route network. N251US served during the period when Northwest Orient used the 727 as one of its principal short and medium haul aircraft, feeding passengers into long haul services from major hubs. The type was eventually replaced by newer, more fuel-efficient twin-engine narrowbody aircraft.
Designed as a smaller, short/medium-ranged complement to the 707, the 727 was first flown on February 9th, 1963. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
