Airbus A320-211, serial number 378, entered service with Air Canada as C-FMSX in February 1993. Built in 1992 and powered by two CFM International CFM56-5A1 engines, the aircraft spent decades operating Air Canada's domestic and transborder network. C-FMSX was later transferred to the carrier's specialized Air Canada Jetz operation in December 2022 and reconfigured with an all-premium 70-seat interior for charter services. Remarkably, the veteran A320 remains active in 2026, more than 33 years after its first flight, making it one of the oldest aircraft still operating in Air Canada's fleet.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
