McDonnell Douglas DC-10-40, serial number 46767, entered service with Northwest Airlines as N158US. The aircraft became part of Northwest's long haul fleet and was widely used on transpacific routes linking the United States with destinations in Japan and other parts of Asia. Configured with a multi class passenger cabin, the DC-10-40 offered increased capacity and improved range compared with earlier aircraft types. Powered by Pratt and Whitney JT9D engines, the aircraft provided dependable long distance performance. N158US played a key role in Northwest Airlines' international expansion before the type was eventually retired as newer twin engine widebody aircraft replaced the DC-10.
