The Saab J 35 Draken served with the Scania Wing, designated F 10, based at Angelholm in southern Sweden. F 10 operated the Draken primarily in the air defense role during the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s as part of Sweden's Cold War fighter force. The wing maintained quick reaction alert readiness to intercept unidentified aircraft approaching Swedish airspace over the Baltic Sea. The Draken's supersonic performance, radar, and missile armament made it well suited for interception missions. F 10 later transitioned to the Saab Viggen before eventually adopting the JAS 39 Gripen prior to the wing's disbandment in 2002.
Designed as a high-speed interceptor to replace the J29, the Saab J35 Draken was first flown on October 25th, 1955. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
