Airbus A330-303, operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as PH-AKB. The aircraft joined KLM's long haul fleet for services from Amsterdam Schiphol to destinations across North America, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Powered by two General Electric CF6-80E1 engines, the A330-300 provides a useful balance of passenger capacity, cargo capability, and intercontinental range. PH-AKB remains active with KLM in 2026 and regularly operates routes including Amsterdam-Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Aruba, and Bonaire. The A330 continues to complement KLM's newer Boeing 787 fleet on medium and long haul international services.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
