Airbus A350-941, operated by South African Airways as ZS-SDF. The aircraft joined SAA's fleet as part of a short-lived introduction of the A350-900 for long haul services from Johannesburg. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, ZS-SDF offered substantially improved fuel efficiency and range compared with older four-engine widebodies. SAA used its A350s on selected intercontinental routes, including services to New York, while attempting to reduce operating costs during a difficult financial period. The airline's A350 operation was brief, and the aircraft subsequently left the fleet, but the type represented a significant modernization of SAA's long distance passenger product.
