Airbus A330-243, operated by China Eastern Airlines as B-5942. The aircraft joined China Eastern's widebody fleet for domestic trunk routes and regional and long haul international services from Shanghai. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, B-5942 combines useful passenger and cargo capacity with efficient twin-engine performance. The aircraft has carried special markings commemorating China Eastern's 60th anniversary and continues to serve routes throughout China and across Asia. The A330-200's range and moderate capacity make it particularly versatile for markets requiring widebody comfort without the greater size of China Eastern's Boeing 777-300ER fleet.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
