Boeing 767-2J6ER, serial number 23307, entered service with CAAC as B-2551 in October 1985. One of China's early Boeing 767s, the aircraft helped introduce efficient twin-engine widebody service on domestic and international routes. When CAAC's airline operations were reorganized, B-2551 transferred to Air China in 1988 and remained there until 2007. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT9D engines, the 767-200ER combined useful long range capability with substantially lower operating costs than larger widebodies. It later served in the United States as N712AX and eventually joined Asian Air in Thailand as HS-DCM before being withdrawn from service.

Boeing 767-200ER

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. With more than 1000 aircraft produced, the 767 is the second most prolific wide-bodied airliner after the 747.
