Boeing 757-2Z0, operated by Air China as B-2820. The aircraft joined Air China's narrowbody fleet for domestic and regional international services during a period of rapid expansion in Chinese civil aviation. Powered by two Rolls-Royce RB211 turbofan engines, the Boeing 757 combined excellent runway performance, useful range, and substantial passenger capacity. B-2820 operated high-density routes linking Beijing and other major Chinese cities while also supporting services to neighboring countries. Air China's 757s were eventually replaced by newer Airbus A320-family and Boeing 737 aircraft, ending the type's long and productive career with China's flag carrier.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
