Airbus A320-232, serial number 791, entered service with TransAsia Airways as B-22310 in June 1998. Powered by two International Aero Engines V2500 turbofans, the aircraft operated domestic and regional international services from Taiwan for much of its career. B-22310 briefly operated for EVA Air before returning to TransAsia in 2009 and later served destinations including Japan, Macau, and Southeast Asia. In October 2004, the aircraft overran the runway while landing at Taipei Songshan following a thrust-reverser malfunction, but was repaired and returned to service. Following TransAsia's closure in 2016, B-22310 was ferried to the United States and scrapped.

Airbus A320

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service.
