Boeing 757-27A, operated by Far Eastern Air Transport as B-27015. The aircraft formed part of the Taiwanese carrier's Boeing 757 fleet, which provided greater capacity and range than its earlier narrowbody equipment. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW2000 turbofan engines, B-27015 operated domestic services within Taiwan as well as regional international routes. The 757's strong runway performance and efficient twin-engine design made it particularly useful for high-density services from airports such as Taipei Songshan. Far Eastern Air Transport became one of the relatively few Asian operators of the Boeing 757, making aircraft such as B-27015 especially distinctive.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
