Boeing 727-109, operated by China Airlines as B-1820. The aircraft formed part of China Airlines' early jet fleet and operated regional passenger services from Taiwan to destinations throughout East and Southeast Asia. Powered by three Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan engines, the 727-100 offered excellent runway performance and useful capacity for the relatively short international routes typical of the carrier's developing network. B-1820 represented an important stage in China Airlines' transition from piston and turboprop aircraft to modern jet transports, helping establish faster and more frequent services before larger Boeing 707s, 747s, and newer narrowbody aircraft expanded the fleet.
Designed as a smaller, short/medium-ranged complement to the 707, the 727 was first flown on February 9th, 1963. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
