Curtiss R5C-1 Commando, tail number LH14, flew for United States Marine Corps squadron VMR-252 (Marine Transport Squadron 252), the military designation for the C-46 Commando used by the Navy and Marine Corps. VMR-252, based at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California, in the postwar years, used the R5C-1 for personnel and cargo transport supporting Marine aviation logistics. The squadron's history traces back to 1928 and included service through World War II campaigns including Pearl Harbor, the Marianas, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. As part of this fleet, LH14 supported VMR-252's transport operations during the late 1940s.
