Fokker F27 Friendship, registered N423SA, flew for Piedmont Commuter as part of the regional feeder network supporting Piedmont Airlines' mainline operations across the eastern United States. Piedmont built an extensive regional commuter network using aircraft like the F27 to connect smaller Appalachian and Southeastern U.S. cities to Piedmont's hub network before the airline's eventual 1989 merger into USAir. As part of this regional fleet, N423SA supported Piedmont Commuter's essential role feeding passengers into Piedmont's broader route network during the airline's period of significant growth in the 1970s and 1980s.
Designed as a pressurized, turboprop medium-range airliner, the F27 was first flown on November 24th, 1955. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
