Fokker F27 Friendship, registered OB-R-1082, flew for Aeroperu as part of the Peruvian flag carrier's fleet of turboprop aircraft supporting domestic Peruvian routes across the country's challenging Andean and coastal terrain. Aeroperu operated the reliable, rugged F27 to connect smaller Peruvian cities that larger jets could not economically or practically serve given the demanding high-altitude airports common throughout the country. As part of this fleet, OB-R-1082 supported Aeroperu's role as Peru's national carrier during the airline's operational decades before its eventual 1999 collapse amid financial difficulties.
