The Airbus A320 is Airbus's original narrowbody family launch aircraft, first entering service in 1988 with Air France as the first commercial airliner to feature fly-by-wire flight controls, a pioneering technology that has since become standard across the industry. Air China operates the A320 as part of its substantial narrowbody fleet supporting domestic Chinese routes, alongside the larger A321 and smaller A319 variants within the same family. The A320 family has become one of the best-selling aircraft programs in aviation history, competing directly with Boeing's 737 for decades across the global commercial aviation market.

Airbus A320

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service.
