Douglas DC-8-50, registered N8008D, flew for Trans International Airlines (later renamed Transamerica Airlines), a California-based supplemental carrier founded in 1948, as part of the airline's fleet of early DC-8s supporting charter passenger and cargo operations from its Oakland base. Trans International built a substantial charter business under Transamerica Corporation ownership before the airline's eventual 1986 closure. As part of this historic fleet, N8008D supported Trans International's charter operations during the golden age of American supplemental air carriers.
