Tupolev Tu-154B, registered RA-85220, flew for Dalavia (Far Eastern Aviation Company), a Russian regional carrier based in Khabarovsk, as part of the airline's fleet of Soviet-designed trijets supporting domestic routes across Russia's vast Far Eastern region. Dalavia relied on the Tu-154's range and capacity to connect the sparsely populated Russian Far East to Moscow and other major Russian cities across the country's enormous distances. As part of this historic fleet, RA-85220 supported Dalavia's essential role connecting Russia's remote eastern regions before the airline's eventual 2009 closure amid financial and safety concerns.
