Airbus A320-232, registered VH-HYC, flew for Ansett Australia as part of the carrier's fleet of A320s supporting domestic Australian routes connecting major cities across the country. Ansett, one of Australia's two major domestic carriers for much of the 20th century alongside Qantas subsidiary Australian Airlines, operated a substantial narrowbody fleet before the airline's dramatic 2001 collapse, one of the largest corporate failures in Australian aviation history. As part of this historic fleet, VH-HYC supported Ansett's domestic network during the carrier's final years before its closure left a significant gap in Australian domestic aviation.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

Airbus A320

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service.
