Airbus A320-214, registered C-FTDA, flew for Airtours (or a Canadian-registered charter operator associated with the Airtours brand) as part of the airline's fleet of A320s supporting leisure charter routes. Airtours International Airways, the in-house airline of the UK's Airtours plc tour operator, built a substantial charter fleet during the 1990s and 2000s connecting the UK to European and long-haul holiday destinations before the carrier's eventual rebrand to MyTravel Airways. As part of this fleet, C-FTDA supported Airtours' charter operations during the carrier's period of significant growth in European leisure travel.
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
