Sud Aviation Caravelle, registered PP-VJD, flew for VARIG, the Brazilian flag carrier, as part of the airline's early fleet of French-built jets supporting domestic Brazilian and regional South American routes, alongside sister aircraft PP-VJC. VARIG used the Caravelle to modernize its short and medium-haul network during the 1960s before the carrier's later fleet expansion with Boeing aircraft, part of VARIG's multi-decade rise into one of the world's most respected airlines.
