McDonnell Douglas DC-8-54F, registered N801CK, flew for American International Airways (later Kalitta Air) as part of the Michigan-based cargo carrier's fleet of converted DC-8 freighters supporting domestic and international cargo operations. Founded by drag racer and businessman Connie Kalitta, the airline built a substantial freighter fleet using aging but capable DC-8s before rebranding as Kalitta Air in the late 1990s, becoming a significant charter and contract cargo operator.
