McDonnell Douglas DC-8-61, registered N861PL, flew for ATI (Aero Transporti Italiani) as part of the Italian domestic carrier's fleet of stretched DC-8s. ATI operated as a subsidiary of Alitalia focused on domestic Italian routes and regional international connections, using various jet types to complement Alitalia's mainline international operations before ATI's eventual reintegration into Alitalia in the 1990s. As part of this fleet, N861PL supported ATI's role within the broader Alitalia Group's structure during a period of Italian aviation industry consolidation.
Designed to compete with the Boeing 707, the DC-8 was first flown on May 30th, 1958. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
