McDonnell Douglas DC-8-33, registered HS-TGW, flew for Thai Airways as part of the flag carrier's early fleet of DC-8s supporting the airline's initial long-haul international expansion from Bangkok during the 1960s. Thai Airways International was formed in 1960 through a partnership between Thai Airways Company and Scandinavian Airlines System, and the DC-8 represented an important early step in the carrier's development of intercontinental capability before Thai's eventual transition to Boeing widebody aircraft including the 747 and later 777 and A350 fleets.
