McDonnell Douglas DC-8-61, registered 5N-HAS (a Nigerian registration, suggesting a lease arrangement), flew for Aeroperu as part of the Peruvian flag carrier's fleet of stretched DC-8s supporting long-haul international routes connecting Peru to destinations across the Americas and beyond. Aeroperu operated as Peru's national carrier for decades before the airline's eventual 1999 collapse amid financial difficulties. As part of this historic fleet, the aircraft supported Aeroperu's international network during the carrier's operational years, reflecting the common industry practice of leasing aircraft under foreign registrations to meet capacity needs.
