N6213C was a Lockheed L-1049-53 built in 1952 with a c/n 4013. The aircraft was delivered to Eastern Airlines in late 1952 and operated with them until 1968 however it was leased to Pan American World Airways between June and November of 1955. Pan Am named the aircraft "Clipper Climax" and this was the one and only L-1049 operated by this airline. In 1962 the aircraft made a belly landing due to nose gear failure. The damage was repaired and N6213C flew with Eastern for six more years before being stored for 5 months and then became the property of the Aviation Corporation of America. In June 1976 the aircraft was sold to a new owner in Oklahoma and in January 1977 the registration for N6213C L-1049 was cancelled.
