Douglas DC-8-53, construction number 45576, was delivered to Philippine Airlines as PI-C801 in the mid 1960s, marking a significant step in the carrier's jet age expansion. The aircraft operated long haul international routes from Manila to destinations across Asia, Australia, and the United States, helping establish Philippine Airlines as a major regional operator. PI-C801 featured a multi class cabin typical of the era and wore the airline's classic red, white, and blue livery. Powered by Pratt and Whitney JT3D engines, the DC-8-53 offered improved range and payload capability compared with earlier variants. PI-C801 played an important role in expanding Philippine Airlines' global network before later being retired as newer widebody aircraft entered service.
