Boeing 720-030B, registered HK-1973, flew for Aerocondor, a Colombian carrier, as part of the airline's fleet of Boeing 720s supporting domestic and regional routes from Colombia during the type's heyday. The 720 was a shorter, lighter derivative of the Boeing 707 optimized for shorter routes with lower payload requirements, popular among airlines needing jet speed without the 707's full range and capacity. As part of Aerocondor's historic fleet, HK-1973 supported the airline's operations during a formative period for Colombian commercial jet aviation before the type's eventual retirement in favor of newer aircraft.
Designed as the first American turbine-engined airliner, the 707 was first flown on July 15th, 1954.
