Airbus A320-232, registered V8-RBS, flies for Royal Brunei Airlines as part of the small Southeast Asian sultanate's flag carrier fleet supporting regional routes connecting Bandar Seri Begawan to destinations across Asia and Australia. Royal Brunei Airlines, wholly owned by the Brunei government, operates a compact fleet reflecting the country's small population, using narrowbody A320s for shorter regional routes alongside 787 Dreamliners for longer-haul international connections. As part of this fleet, V8-RBS supports Royal Brunei's role connecting the oil-rich sultanate to the broader Southeast Asian aviation network.

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
