Dragon Models 1:72 Armor Collector Series 60061
Alkett Sd.Kfz.164 Nashorn Display Model
German Army sPzJgAbt 560, #231, Germany, 1943

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Alkett Sd.Kfz.164 Nashorn   3.25"   1.75"

The actual model represents a vehicle serving with s.Pz.Jg.Abt.560 during rail transportation from Germany to assembly area for Kursk. It bears an interesting 'wavy' camouflage of brown lines, and tactical markings. As an open-topped vehicle, there is a host of detail visible inside the fighting compartment, and details have been faithfully reproduced and painted realistically. To finish it off, it has been given a light weathering to add that extra touch of realism. Named the "Rhinoceros" ("Nashorn" in German), this 24-ton tracked vehicle was designed in 1942 as a self-propelled anti-tank gun. It mounted the formidable 8.8cm PaK43 gun and served with independent Panzerjäger units. A total of 494 were produced, and they first saw action in the summer of 1943 on the Eastern Front.

Alkett Sd.Kfz.164 Nashorn

The Nashorn or, "Rhinoceros", was a tank hunter used by the Germans in WWII. The Nashorn began production in early 1943 with an 88mm anti-tank gun, the same gun used on the Tiger. It was design on a lengthened new Panzer III/IV (a mixture of the Panzer III and IV) chassis, with the gun being surrounded with an open topped superstructure. The tanks debut was made in the battle of Kursk 1943 where it met much success due to its ability to engage enemy tanks at a distance at which the allied tanks could not hit or penetrate it.

Dragon's 1:72 scale Nashhorn is constructed almost entirely from plastic, which allows for the greatest possible detail. A discrete internal weight has been added to give the model a characteristic "heft." This model has many fine details, including a large, open-top fighting compartment, which reveals details such as ammo storage boxes loaded with hand-painted shells and crew machine guns, and a masterfully recreated 88mm PaK 43 cannon that elevates and pivots, featuring a breach system with operator seat and dial hand cranks. The hull's exterior has a separately attached spare track, jack and road wheels. Maintenance hatches, leaf-spring suspension and rivets can be clearly seen on the underside.
