US Navy Fighter Squadron 154 (VF-154) Black Knights was the new designation given to VF-837 on February 4th, 1953. The squadron transitioned from the F9F Panther through the FJ-3 Fury, F-8 Crusader and F-4 Phantom II before upgrading to the F-14 Tomcat in October, 1983. The Black Knights deployed many times with the F-14 on various Nimitz class carriers. The squadron's final cruise with the F-14 took place in 2003 aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Upon return, VF-154 was redesignated VFA-154 and transitioned to the F/A-18F Super Hornet.
This model includes a battery-powered lighting system that illuminates the cockpit interior and the nav-lights under the nose and over the wing gloves. An additional set of lights deep within the engine exhausts add a red glow when switched on.
Designed to carry the formidable long range AIM-54 Phoenix missile, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat was first flown on December 21st, 1970. Made famous by the Hollywood film Top Gun, the F-14 replaced the F-4 Phantom II as the US Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter. Its design includes a variable geometry wing that can sweep back for high speed supersonic intercepts and forward for improved positioning in air to air dogfights. Nicknamed "Bombcat," the F-14 spent much of its late career in an air-to-ground role, carrying the Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) system. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
JSI's 1:18 scale F-14 is an extremely large and impressive model, bristling with a great many moving features. The canopy is hinged and can be locked open to reveal a wealth of cockpit detail. The nose radome is also hinged to expose the pivoting radar dish inside. The wings can be swung from the full-forward take-off position to the fully-overswept storage position and the horizontal stabilators can be rotated. The landing gear and gear doors are intricately detailed and are fully articulated for retraction and extension, with spring-loaded struts that compress as they bear the weight of the model.

The JSI Aircraft range presents highly-detailed, ready-made plastic models of military aircraft in 1:18 scale. Their large size allows for a large number of articulated features while their plastic construction helps keeps their weight down to a reasonable level.
JS International display airplanes feature:
- Molded plastic construction with some snap-fit assembly required.
- Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
- Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals.
- Opening canopies, revealing detailed cockpit interiors.
- Selected moveable control surfaces.
- Functional extending/retracting landing gear with rolling wheels.
- Authentic detachable ordnance loads complete with placards.
DISCLAIMER - Please Read
Please keep in mind that large scale plastic models are not scaled-up versions of their smaller diecast cousins. They are pre-assembled from a large number of components and production compromises are often made to keep them within reach of the casual collector's budget. Factory painting, glueing and alignment discrepencies are often visible upon close inspection. The models arrive paritially deconstructed and do require time to un-package and assemble prior to display. Assembly mostly consists of pushing together snap-fitting parts, although a little attention with a sharp hobby knife and/or superglue is sometimes required to achieve the best fit.
In summary, with a little effort, these models can make fantastic, attention-grabbing showpieces from a reasonable viewing distance. Up close however, their more toy-like qualities will become apparent. We regret that we are unable to accept returns on these items for minor fit and finish issues.
