In July 1953 a truce was agreed upon between North and South Korea but both sides remained in a state of war. In an effort to maintain this truce a DMZ was created and needed enforcement of its territory. The 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army played a major role in the original creation and future maintenance of the DMZ. The 1st Cavalry Division the "First Team" is a heavy armored division and is the largest division in the U.S. Army.
