This model depicts a mighty Tiger I tank, in this case a Late-Production version. It is presented in the markings of 2nd Kompanie of s.SS-Pz.Abt.101, a unit attached to the elite “LSSAH” Panzer Division. Originally formed on 19 July 1943, s.SS-Pz.Abt.101 fought against Allied troops after the Normandy landings of 6 June 1944. This crack assault battalion possessed some 45 Tiger I tanks, and despite fighting bravely it eventually lost nearly all of them. This exciting Dragon Armor item has a readymade Zimmerit coating applied with a master’s touch to give a fine scale appearance. It is also dressed in a three-color camouflage scheme. This Tiger I from the famous unit is bound to score a direct hit with armor collectors!
Production of the Tiger began in August 1942, and by August 1944 1,355 of these tanks had been built. The 88mm main gun was the most powerful anti-tank gun in use by any army. The superior mobility of Allied tanks allowed them to attack from behind or from the side in the hope of taking a Tiger down. The influence of Tiger tanks on allied morale grew to almost mythical proportions, and was known as "Tigerphobia." Tigers destroyed tremendous amounts of enemy equipment and often just the sight of a Tiger would induce the Russian tankers to withdraw. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Dragon's 1:72 scale Tiger I is constructed almost entirely of diecast plastic, which helps highlight even the smallest details such as welding beads and intricate Zimmerit coatings (some releases). Each release spotlights an early, mid or late production version with subtle variations such as the replacement of the rubber rimmed road wheels with steel wheels. Intricately detailed air intake filters are included for tropical/desert theater releases. This model features a rotating turret, elevating cannon with a weathered and detailed muzzle break and forward machine gun. Separately applied tow cables, shovels and track repair gear provide the extra equipment needed in the battlefield.
