This model is Dragon's first C-5A Galaxy and showcases the 105th Airlift Wing, which is the only Air National Guard unit to fly this aircraft. The 105th Airlift Wing is a strategic unit which transports large cargo loads around the world in a specific aircraft known as the C-5A. The 105th is the only Air National Guard unit with this unique aircraft and mission. The 105th Air Lift Wing is located at Stewart Air National Guard Base on the Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY. The C-5 Galaxy is one of the world's largest aircraft and is as long as a football field and as high as a six-story building. It was designed to provide strategic airlift for deployment and supply of combat and support forces. The C-5 can carry unusually large and heavy cargos for intercontinental ranges at jet speeds. It is powered by four turbofan engines and is the only aircraft that is capable of transporting any Army's combat equipment including fully equipped troops, 74-ton mobile scissors bridges, tanks and helicopters. With its massive payload capability, the C-5 has been involved in many historic airlift missions and has contributed tremendous efforts to many important humanitarian operations.

Lockheed C-5A Galaxy

Designed to meet a USAF requirement for a heavy logistics transport, the C-5 was first flown on June 30th, 1968. The t-tail configuration provides unobstructed access to the large rear loading ramp which, in combination with the massive hinged nose, allows for "drive-through" loading and unloading of cargo. The C-5 is one of the largest military aircraft ever built and its cavernous cargo compartment measures 121 feet long by 19 feet wide and 13.5 feet high. This is in addition to an upper deck with seating for 73 passengers. Current versions of the aircraft are capable of lifting up to 270,000 lbs of cargo.

Dragon's 1:400 C-5 is a large model in this scale and is constructed almost entirely of solid diecast metal with an intelligent blend of plastic components. The fuselage and wings are cast as a single unit from solid diecast metal yielding a smooth seamless joint providing for most the model's weight. This models extra-wide body fuselage is wonderfully sculpted and features pad-printed windows and doors that do not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. Each wing integrates six accurately replicated flap track fairings at the rear with fan blade details clearly visible in each of the four engines.
