The Northrop XB-35 and YB-35 were experimental heavy bomber aircraft developed for the United States Army Air Forces during and shortly after World War II by the Northrop Corporation. It used the radical and potentially very efficient flying wing design, in which the tail section and fuselage are eliminated and all payload is carried in a thick wing. Only prototype and pre-production aircraft were built, although interest remained strong enough to warrant further development of the aircraft as a jet bomber, under the designation YB-49. Dragon's Warbird range already includes the YB-49, so the addition of this model completes the flying-wing series. The propeller engines at the rear of the flying wing are reproduced in sophisticated detail and are true to scale. Since the original XB-35 was made of aluminium alloy, Dragon's innovative "metallic skin" technique is used to realistically recreate this material. The result is a fine representation of this futuristic-looking metal-skinned flying wing.
Designed as an experimental prototype for the B-35 heavy-bomber, the XB-35 was first flown in June 1946. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
The Dragon Models "Dragon Wings 1:200 Warbirds Series" range presents highly-detailed, ready-made plastic models of military aircaft. While these models may lack the heft of their metal counterparts, the painting and markings are applied with the same precision as other Warbirds, making them pefectly at home in any diecast collection.
Dragon Models "Dragon Wings 1:200 Warbirds Series" display model airplanes feature:
- Molded plastic construction.
- Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
- Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals.
- Presentation stand to display the aircraft "in flight".
