The Typhoon is an agile, single seat, multirole aircraft optimized for high altitude supersonic air combat but also capable of operating at much lower levels in the air-to-ground roles. It is built by a four-nation consortium comprised of companies from the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The state-of-the art aircraft is set to be the RAF's major front-line type for many years to come, replacing the RAF's Tornado F3 fighters and Jaguar fighter-bombers in front-line service. One major advantage of the aircraft over current types is its ability to undertake 'swing role' missions. For these, Typhoon can be equipped to undertake both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions in a single sortie, switching between the two separate attack modes in Tornado GR4 for example. And with nine underwing weapon-mounting points, Typhoon can be equipped with 2 x Advanced Short-Range Air-to Air Missiles (AMRAAMs), 4x Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles_(AMRAAMs) whilst simultaneously carrying air-to-surface ordnance which could include Laser Guided Bombs (Paveway 2 and 3 or Enhanced Paveway), Brimstone anti-armour weapon, Storm Shadow cruise missiles and Air Launched Anti-Radiation Missiles (ALARMs), the aircraft packs a mighty punch. Ultimately, Meteor, a combination of rocket and air-breathing technology, will replace AMRAAM as Typhoon's primary long range air-to-air. In 2003 No 17 became the first RAF Squadron to receive the Europhyter Typhoon. Initially based a Warton its responsibilities include the evaluation of the new aircraft and its integration into full squadron service.

Eurofighter Typhoon F.Mk 2

Designed as part of a co-operative effort by Germany, Italy and the UK to produce an air superiority fighter, the Eurofighter was first flown on March 27th, 1994. The Eurofighter is a single-seat, twin-engine, agile combat aircraft used in air-to-air, air-to-ground and tactical reconnaissance roles. It is intentionally aerodynamically unstable, which gives it its high levels of agility-but this means the Typhoon is controlled by a computerized "fly by wire" system instead of by its pilot. The Eurofighter's first rate performance is matched by excellent all round vision and by sophisticated attack, identification and defense systems and stealth technology.

Corgi's 1:72 scale Eurofighter series includes the single-seat F.2 and the two-seat T.1 trainer. Large canopies in both the single and two-seat versions provide easy viewing of crew figures and cockpit interior. The speed brake is easily configured for display in the deployed position and securely locks in place. A notable feature of this delta wing model is the replication of canards that rotate in unison located ahead of the contoured main wing. This model is constructed using only the minimal amount of plastic and feels surprisingly heavy. The engine intakes are beautifully reproduced to highlight its anti-radar signature design with engine afterburner detail present inside the exhaust nozzles.
