Manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft Division of United Technologies in Stratford, 42 medium-range Jayhawk HH-60J helicopters are operating in the Coast Guard. With its twin T700-GE-401C engines, the Jayhawk can fly up to 300 miles offshore, remain on scene 45 minutes, hoist six people on board, and return to its point of origin with a safe fuel reserve. The H-60 will fly comfortably at 140 knots for sixty seven hours. Though normally stationed ashore, the Jayhawk can be carried aboard 270-foot WMEC and 378-foot WHEC Coast Guard cutters. The Jayhawk's state-of-the art radar, radio, and navigation equipment enables the helicopter to carry out the Coast Guard's search and rescue, law enforcement, military readiness and marine environmental protection missions efficiently and effectively. The HH-60J Jayhawk is a medium-range recovery helicopter, which is used to perform search and rescue, law enforcement, military readiness, and marine environmental protection missions with the U.S. Coast Guard. The HH-60J is not able to perform water landings. Though normally stationed ashore, it can land and take-off from 270-foot medium endurance cutter and 378-foot high endurance Coast Guard Cutters. These cutters are capable of refueling and supporting the helicopter for the duration of a cutter patrol.
Designed as a better-performing, more reliable replacement for the UH-1 Huey, the UH-60 Black Hawk was first flown on November 29, 1974. The Black Hawk was one of the first aircraft to use the General Electric T700, a common turbine engine designed for use in multiple Army helicopters. This four-bladed, twin-engined, medium-lift aircraft has a low-profile shape so that it can be transported aboard the C-130 Hercules. It also has greater survivability than the helicopter it replaced, with advanced avionics and electronics such as the Global Positioning System (GPS). Corgi's 1:72 scale Blackhawk helicopter is beautifully detailed, with main and tail rotor heads that spin freely. The "green-house" canopy with separately applied photo-etched metal wiper blades is large, allowing for easy viewing of the cockpit interior and crew figures. Some releases include a sliding cargo door that reveals additional crew figures and interior details of the cargo-hold.
