The B(SR).2 proved to be an exceptional reconnaissance platform and gave useful service for around eight years before being retired; three were then converted to K.2 standard. XL230 was one of those converted to B(SR).2 standard, later the 'B' was dropped in the designation, as it was no longer a 'bomber'. It entered service with No.543 Squadron at RAF Wyton, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, in December 1965 and served until 10th May 1973, when it was destroyed in a landing accident at RAF Wyton. It bounced during an asymmetrical landing; yawed on attempting to overshoot, hit the ground and blew up!
Designed in response to an Air Ministry requirement, the Victor was first flown on December 24th, 1952. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Corgi's 1:144 scale Victor is constructed almost entirely of diecast metal with only the smallest amount of plastic used, a quality common to most of Corgi's 1:144 series aircraft. The sleek fuselage features pad-printed windows and doors that do not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. The wing is loaded with detail and has large anti-shock pods on the top surface of the trailing edge, veined engine inlets on the leading edge and external fuel tanks below. Configuration for ground display is easy with landing gear that installs quickly, and there is also a multi-position display stand for in flight display.
